Every subculture worth its fashion sense has its own dance. Punk had the pogo. Mods had the Shake, the Block, and the Bang. And emo kids…had feeeeeelings, man! If you’ve ever wondered what steampunk dancing looks like, look at Finn von Claret’s interpretation. It might be contradictory to say steampunk dancing is modern dance, but it combines elements of ballet, cancan and burlesque with wonderful costuming. Fin is fucking amazing. She just quit, the second backup singer/dancer to quit in the past few years. They can’t possibly replace her.
It’s worth noting that the original song lyrics and performance concept were by Magdalene Veen, the last dancer/singer, and also that Herr Drosselmeyer and his clockwork doll are characters from the Nutcracker. Veen quit the band before this song was performed live.
