It’s been a busy few months for Mer-chan in Dubai. Since I’ve been here, our access to Flickr, YouTube, and Facebook has been cut off. I’m sorry if we haven’t been updating Mer-chan News as often as I’d like. If our Dubai office isn’t responding quickly enough to your email, please resend it — we might not have gotten it. And to think, our offices are in Media City!
Hugs, Katy Mer-chan

Nanjing Road is available to purchase on Amazon! The Nanjing Road Official Pirated Special Collectors’ Edition captures the excitement of buying a pirated DVD from a peddler and rushing home to pop it in the player to see if it works. This a fully-functioning, legal DVD that mimics the look and feel of a genuine Shanghai experience.

The Dubai Art Fair season is now over, phew! We collected a good amount of footage for the documentary Cultural Capital: Finding Art in Dubai. The art fair was crazy. We filmed Dubai’s ruler and were shoved out of the way, but we picked ourselves back up and filmed some more. We’re working on a 10 minute trailer, and it will be posted on Mer-chan soon.

We need your support for the film! Cultural Capital: Finding Art in Dubai is fiscally sponsored by IFP, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations to the film are fully tax deductible. To make a tax-deductible donation by credit card, go to Cultural Capital on IFP and click the donate button or send a check payable to IFP:

For those asking about the beloved mushroom erasers, we’re making a trip to the famous dragon-shaped mall in Dubai and trying to source them for you! For everyone else, the Dragon Mart (mall shaped like a Chinese dragon) promises to have many other wonderful, technocuddly things.

Oh Katy, you’re adventures are something else lady! When will you visit Nova Scotia again? You better…or dulce!
