The computer world has been taken over by “air” technology. First came the much-hyped and ultra-slim Macbook Air. Although it was touted as “Thinnovation,” it fell like a lead balloon. But now, Adobe has announced something that really seems to have wings. Adobe Air allows users to use online applications offline. A prime use will be accessing a web account and interface (i.e. Ebay) while not connected to the web (i.e. in the air/on an airplane). Not yet sure if it works with Google Documents but I can’t expect it to be far off. Plus, Google Gears offers a similar online-while-offline system.
But the best thing about Adobe Air is the promotional tour. The application might be all about the air, but the tour is firmly grounded in a bus. Or, for the European tour, its riding the rails. It just goes to show…. you still need to cover the ground before you can fly.
